As December draws to a close, we’ve been thinking back on the year and its best and worst digital marketing trends. To be honest, as we enter 2014, we’re ready to leave behind the following:

Over Instagramming

We all have that one friend who updates their Instagram with each and every detail of their life. Instead of taking the time to produce a high quality photo of something unique and interesting, they post their new socks, a pretty tree and a plate of pancakes. Let’s resolve to be strategic Instagrammers in 2014 and leave our over Instragramming ways behind! To get on the right track, check out our own Instagram guide, which we highly suggest all Instagram users read.

“Hashtag”

2013 has definitely been a great year for the use of hashtags: #TBT, #selfie, #yolo (to name a few). But is anyone else tired of people using the phrase “hashtag” offline? While it was humorous at first, it’s lost its luster over the past couple months and we’re ready to put it away in 2014. Let’s keep the hashtags online shall we? #Agreed!

Likes for Puppies

Accumulating Facebook page likes, especially for a growing brand or new business, can be an effective marketing strategy. Yet when Facebook likes are encouraged for someone to obtain something, we’re missing the point. A family that wants a puppy is great but do we really need to like your page for you to prove to your dad a new pet is a good idea? Facebook defines a “like” as:

“When you click Like on a Facebook Page, in an advertisement, or on content off of Facebook, you are making a connection. A story about your like will appear on your Timeline and may also appear in your News Feed. You may be displayed on the Page you connected to, in advertisements about that Page or in social plugins next to the content you like.”

Let’s stick to making new connections in 2014!

Bitstrips

Yep, we said it; we’re done with Bitstrips! We’d like to see a new visual trend emerge in 2014 that has a more lasting effect. Plus, you have to admit it doesn’t actually look like you.

Are there any 2013 trends that you’re ready to put away in 2014? Let us know! Share with us on the Agency Entourage Facebook page or send us a tweet (@AgencyEntourage).
